MOUNTING INSTRUCTION FOR BRAKE PADS OF ALL TYPES RELEVANT TO ECE R90 APPROVAL FOR THE SBS BRAKE PAD BRAND.

Annex 6: Fitting Instructions

Type : All types of brake pads.

 

1. CLEAN THE INSIDE OF THE BRAKE CALIPER
   Clean with compressed air, which gets rid of all the accumulated brake dust.
   Do it outside and remember to wear mask and goggles.  

2. CHECK FOR BRAKE FLUID LEAKS
   Check around the pistons in your caliper and check that the brakes are not binding when you rotate the wheel. The wheel should rotate freely. If there are leaks or the brakes bind, it is time to refurbish the brake calipers with new pistons, seals, sliding pins, boots etc.

3. ENSURE BRAKE FLUIDS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ACCORDING TO RECOMMEND INTERVALS
   Brake fluid absorbs water over time, which can lead to brake fade! If the fluid has not been changed for a long time or you ride aggressively, it is always better to change the fluid more often than risk crashing due to fading.

4. CHECK THAT YOUR BRAKE DISCS AND BRAKE PADS ARE NOT WORN OUT
   Minimum disc thickness is usually printed or engraved on the brake disc.
   If not see your service manual. If the discs are too worn, we recommend changing the brake pads when you mount new discs. Please contact your local dealer for changing discs and pads.

5. CHECK THE GROOVE PATTERN OF THE BRAKE PADS
   If there are no grooves in the brake pad surface use a vernier caliper to measure the brake pad thickness in multiple spots. The friction material height (above the steel backing plate) should be at least 1,5 mm. If the brake pads are worn below the groove pattern, it is time to have your local dealer change them

6. WHEN THE BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED
   Please remember always to pump the brake lever/pedal a few times until you feel contact before you go riding!
